Training Institute

NPC has its own training establishment in Chennai (erstwhile Madras) called Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Productivity (AIP). It trains consultants for absorption in NPC and also for industry on a sponsored or self-financing basis. Ambedkar Institute of Productivity (AIP) NPC’s Supervisory Development, also located in Chennai, offers National Certificate in Supervision (NCS) through distance learning programme.

NPC’s Chennai, offers BEE's National Certification Examination for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors.

Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Productivity

The Institute

Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Productivity (AIP) is the long term training wing of the National Productivity Council (NPC) of India. It is situated in an industrial environment in the Industrial Estate of Small Industry Development Corporation (SIDCO) of Tamil Nadu, Ambattur, Chennai (Madras). It has been created with the primary purpose of preparing consultants in managerial and technical areas to cater to the needs of NPC. It also trains company-sponsored and self-sponsored participants into consultants who may function from other consultancy organisations as freelancers or employer as "internal consultants" in industrial and other organisation.

Selection & Admission

The qualification for different programmes are basically graduation in engineering, post-graduation in economics/statistics, etc. Selection is through eligibility test, group discussion and personal interview - which will identify analytical, creative, communication and such other abilities vital for Consultant-cum-Trainer.

Structure of Curricula

The courses are highly practice-oriented in terms of consultancy and training. About 50% of time is spent in in-plant projects and on-the-job training at various offices in India under the guidance of NPC’s expert consultants. Remaining 50% of the time is covered in modular pattern sessions, using modern training methodology and AV aids and thesis work.

The main faculty consists of more than 200 specialists at various institutions, organisations, industries and freelance consultants.
