INTRODUCTION

The field of Information Technology has undergone a major change in past decade.  The pressures of ever increasing competition and complexity of business have forced managers to rely on more accurate, timely and complete information on which to base their decisions.  Information is therefore becoming increasingly critical. This has resulted in an ever-increasing level of expectation from the efficiency and effectiveness of the support function managed by the executive, personal secretaries and other officials.  Secretaries and other officials have today got to face the challenge of changing requirements in terms of professional competence and skill and also on the approaches to handle information effectively.  Advances in Information Technology (IT) have made it possible today to make Information available in forms and speeds previously unheard of.

The technologies of computers, communication and office are converging today to bring about integrated office systems.  These systems address the pressing needs of secretaries and other officials for better information management and communication.  The corner stones of productivity of executive secretaries and other officials are today centering on “Electronic Workstations.”  However these technological advances have triggered the emergence of new concepts and patterns of thought.

This program has been specifically designed for executive / personal secretaries and other officials to catalyzing a re-orientation of thinking to effectively utilize the newly available computing and communication tools so that different elements of their job can effectively fit together with IT as the key enabler. The focus is on practical skills, IT tools and techniques to improve productivity and office management.
